Your body feels when there’s a problem and takes steps to solve it. Additional energy is required to fight a disease and the body will ask for it. You may be able to notice the body asks for additional energy and vitamins before the disease is noticeable, so any time you feel the inexplicable need for lots of food, ask yourself if anything is coming, observe and give the body additional vitamins…

The thing is when your are sick like a dog, your body may not want the additional food, it takes more energy to process the food and that should be diverted from fighting the illness…

When you are sick, your body has to work harder to fight off the infection. Even at rest, your body is working harder than normal, and thus, your metabolism is working faster. The body needs nutrients from food to help fight the illness and heal you, and can cause increased hunger signals. It is your body’s way of telling you it needs more nutrients.

This is why people in the hospital, in comatose states are given 2000+ calories a day. The average body requires that amount just to keep all your organs functioning properly. Any activity, even simply standing or sitting up, burns calories.

Sickness is a process. It starts with some imbalance and develops as the body reacts to address the issue. Usually at that stage the system is focused on the problem and drives most of its energy to find a solution, which takes priority even over food digestion. Once the healing process advances, you start seeing the symptoms of the sickness, that are usually the signs of healing. At that stage the body starts getting back to normal and needs to replenish its energy reserves. Then you become hungry.

When you are sick, basically your body is burning up large amounts of energy very rapidly to help beat/survive your illness.

That is why you constantly feel hungry.

Always stay hydrated, eat as much healthy food as you can.

When you are sick your body responds with inflammation to help heal itself. In response to the inflammation the body produces cortisol which then raises your blood sugar. Your body then produces more insulin to take the sugar into the cell. You then get hungry because you body needs more sugar (complex carbs)

Your body expends a lot of energy when fighting off the virus. Therefore, you require more food to replenish that energy loss and to supply energy for more attacks against the virus.

You are using a lot of energy to fight off the bad bacteria in your body, therefore you need more “fuel” for that energy (food).

It’s your body’s way of trying to tell you what you need to eat. If you’re sick with say the dumps like the flu or just punies then a big bowl of oatmeal is good to soak up the “poisons” – works for me every time.
